As soon as I pull out Baking Soda and Vinegar my daughter gets excited. I think the fizz is what makes it so much fun.
But I wanted to make it a little more exciting for her so I saw on Pinterest an activity where a lady used shampoo, food coloring, baking soda and pretty containers. I didn’t have the pretty containers and between my daughter’s hair and mine, we were out of shampoo.
Here is my modified version
What you will need
½ tbsp measuring spoon
- Drop two drops of food coloring in the bottom of the muffin tin. I used primary colors and then mixed a few to make more colors.
- Add a ½ tbsp of baking soda to cover the food coloring
- Fill the squirt bottle with vinegar
- Let your child take over and watch the magic begin
This activity teaches young learners about cause and effect with chemical reactions. Also, they are practicing gripping and I don’t know if you can see it in these pictures but she was focused.
We did this experiment a few times today, she just kept saying “baking soda again mommy”.
I highly recommend trying this with your little one and if you do please share! I would love to see pictures. Hashtag it #mommyingmyway or tag us @mommyingmyway.
